Button Up Thermal Energy Extension

Expand your students’ learning from our Button Up workshop, applying engineering principles to construct a house that minimizes thermal energy transfer. Students are challenged to build a “house” from a windowed cake box, insulate and seal it with various materials, and test the results, exploring thermal energy, heat transfer, data analysis, and the environmental effects of home weatherization.

Transportation Lessons

Students start to think about transportation in their own communities by conducting a school parking lot survey and organizing their data, analyzing EPA fuel economy labels, and interviewing a car owner about their driving tendencies. As a final product, students make recommendations to the vehicle owner regarding future car purchases and ways to reduce their transportation footprints.
