Curricula Kit: How is it that my electrical needs and thousands of others can vary and yet still be met continuously?
Description
Students act as grid operators and homeowners, working to balance output with demand using model houses, transmission lines, generators, and more. VEEP’s Model Grid kit is a great way for students to get hands-on, engaging experience learning about the electric grid, while working with simple circuits. Combining important basic science skills (circuits) with the larger concept of the electric grid, using state of the art science teaching processes, makes the Model Grid attractive to teachers to include in their teaching.

What teachers had to say:
Standards Addressed
NGSS STANDARDS
MS-PS2-3 Motion and Stability: Ask questions about data to determine the factors that affect the strength of electric and magnetic forces
MS-ESS3-4 Earth and Human Activity: Construct an argument supported by evidence for how increases in human population and per-capita consumption of natural resources impact Earth’s systems
MS-ETS1-3 Engineering Design: Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.
