This year’s STEM Energy Action Group included a small group of enthusiastic youth that planned and conducted their own action projects. The STEM Energy Action Group is a 3 month class where youth in grades 4-8 meet regularly with VEEP/NHEEP educators to learn about the basics of energy generation and how human’s use of energy affects our environment and climate. Each participant then plans and conducts an action project that aims to decrease the negative impacts of energy use.

2023 student project summaries:

  • Handing out free native seeds with informational cards: connecting with community members and increasing awareness of the importance of native species.
  • Tabling at the library with pollinator seeds and information on species.
  • Created and handed out pamphlets with information on key issues and solution ideas: food, heating/cooling, buildings, green spaces
  • Research and experiments on new ways of converting energy to move toward safer and more efficient methods.
